Barton Malow was selected as construction manager by Orlando Health to complete a 30-acre campus in Lake Mary, FL. The new freestanding emergency department and medical office building were built to serve the growing needs of Lake Mary and surrounding communities. The Orlando Health Emergency Room and Medical Pavilion consists of a two-story, emergency department, provided as a service of Orlando Health South Seminole Hospital, and an adjacent three-story, medical office building. Barton Malow took an innovative team management approach; emphasizing communication throughout project delivery.
Preconstruction and scheduling were keys to Barton Malow’s innovative speed to market process for this project. Similarly, constructability reviews and analysis minimized scope gaps and the need for change orders. Barton Malow maximized efficiencies by utilizing VDC technology and site logistics to ensure the on-time and on-budget delivery.
Orlando Health also challenged Barton Malow to maximize owner direct purchasing in an effort to control cost. Barton Malow addressed this challenge by emphasizing budget management and financial reporting from preconstruction through project closeout. Additionally, budget concerns were addressed through diligent adherence to clear project accounting practices, budget status reports, monthly cash flow updates, manpower tracking, and change management.
