In recent years, the majority of the K12 public school districts in Livingston County, Michigan, independently installed their private optical fiber networks to interconnect their respective schools within the district. The County contacted Barton Malow, as a premier K12 technology contractor, to design and install a fiber-optic network connecting emergency response facilities with K12 throughout the region. Using the existing network already established by the schools, Barton Malow’s Technology Services team could stretch grant dollars and connect the school buildings to municipal and emergency response facilities.
The result is a county-wide network that effectively shares and improves resources. Networks from three county school districts extended connectivity beyond the school buildings to municipal offices, police stations, fire stations, and EMS facilities in 10 county townships.
