With the bump from the United Soccer League to Major League Soccer, the Orlando City Soccer Club needed a new stadium and Barton Malow was selected as its MLS stadium builder of choice to provide construction management and concrete self-perform services. The 425,000-SF stadium is located in the heart of downtown Orlando and features an open design with a playing pitch 10-12 feet below street level.
The stadium has a capacity of approximately 25,500 seats and a canopy that covers every seat to enhance crowd noise and provide shelter from the elements. The facility holds 31 suites, including a 90-person “super suite” and a 59-person group suite. Additional scope includes an 8,400-SF indoor club, a 10,000-SF open-air terrace, and a 360-degree concourse with additional concessions and amenities for a premier fan experience. The all-natural grass playing surface offers spectacular views from street level.
Overcoming Site Challenges
Barton Malow had to work around an existing AT&T duct bank running through the middle of the site for the first 10 months of the project. The team also had limited site access due to the City’s road construction projects to the north and south of the stadium. Our team also proactively collaborated with the local utility company (OUC) to overcome delays and issues relating to obtaining permanent power.
Maximizing Diversity
As a leading MLS stadium builder, Barton Malow also conformed to the spirit of the City’s “Blueprint” for local, minority, and women participation on both the craftsmen and subcontractor level for this project. We held outreach events, conducted training seminars, reduced bonding requirements, initiated a quick payment process, and mentored subcontractors to ensure that working on this project would help grow their business.
