To enhance their presence in the city of Detroit, a financial services firm leased 10,000 SF from Bedrock LLC and brought Barton Malow on board as the construction manager to complete the commercial office renovation. We also provided self-perform services for the studs/drywall, acoustic ceilings and baffles, and insulation. The newly renovated space provides an ‘urban’ feel, offering a new and unique style from the traditional commercial office spaces the client was accustomed to.
The project spans the third floor of 1201 and 1217 Woodward Avenue. The design honors the building’s history as a retail hub, using an industrial aesthetic with natural wood, metal accents, and original exposed pillars. Private and team offices for 24 employees can be found in 1201, while 1217 holds three conference rooms and a large, flexible space for collaboration and events. To better the employee experience, the new office features six meeting rooms, collaborative breakout areas, and a coffee bar.
A Focus on Historic Preservation
Historic preservation was an important aspect of the renovation project, and maintaining the building’s unique features was a priority. The exposed brick and restored ornate columns add a modern, yet timeless appearance to the 100-year-old building interior.
