BlueOval SK
Ford Motor Company selected Barton Malow Company to build two mammoth battery plants in Glendale, Kentucky. These facilities, totaling 9 million SF under roof, are being built on BlueOval SK Battery Park Kentucky’s sprawling 1,500-acre campus, located about an hour outside Louisville. Once complete, this project will power the next generation of Ford and Lincoln electric vehicles (EVs) while reaching a total capacity of more than 80-gigawatt hours.
Barton Malow Company partnered with Lexington, Kentucky-based Gray Construction on the project for the contractor’s expansive knowledge and experience in the local market. Construction of the megaproject requires 80,000 tons of steel erected, 400,000 CY of concrete poured, and 5,200,000 CY of earth moved. An estimated 4,700 craft workers are expected to be on site at peak.
BlueOval SK Battery Park is a joint venture between Ford and SK On, a battery manufacturer and subsidiary of South Korean-based SK Innovation.
