Barton Malow’s first-of-its-kind Ultium Cells lithium-ion battery cell manufacturing facility in Lordstown, Ohio, has been honored with The Association of Union Constructors’ (TAUC) Joseph R. La Rocca Project of the Year Award in the “Above $50 Million” category. The award recognizes outstanding work performed under labor management cooperation, specifically pertaining to collaboration and teamwork, quality and craftsmanship, execution, and safety.
Barton Malow Company team members formally accepted the honor on Thursday, May 18, at TAUC’s annual Construction Leadership Conference in Savannah, Georgia.
The project, located on 156 acres and spanning 2.8 million SF, was built via an Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) delivery method. Barton Malow Company also self-performed layout, civil, concrete/resteel, steel erection, and interior finishes. The team mobilized in early 2020 and reached substantial completion in late 2022.
Barton Malow has since begun work on two more Ultium Cells projects in Spring Hill, Tennessee, and Lansing, Michigan.
