Two Barton Malow projects, Calvin and Tina Tyler Hall and Hampden Medical Center, were named 2021 MidAtlantic Best Projects by Engineering News-Record (ENR). These projects were among 32 winners selected by industry judges from the nearly 90 entries submitted throughout Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia, and the District of Columbia. Projects were evaluated on the ability of the project team to overcome challenges, contribution to the industry and community, safety and construction, and design quality.
The Morgan State University Calvin and Tina Tyler Hall Student Services Building project, which won in the Higher Education/Research category at the Best Project level, is a 142,000-SF, state-of-the-art support services facility that consists of offices, training spaces, tour rooms, community outreach, career development spaces, campus data center, study areas, Grab-N-Go food services, and building support mechanical/electrical areas. The project also achieved LEED Gold through the U.S. Green Building Council.
The Hampden Medical Center, a Barton Malow-Alexander joint venture, won an Award of Merit in the Healthcare category. The Penn State Health 300,000-SF, three-story project included 108 private inpatient beds, an emergency department with observation beds, physician offices, various specialty inpatient services, imaging and lab services, and complete medical and surgical capabilities.
