During Community Week 2023, Barton Malow’s Columbus office partnered with Tolles Career and Technical Center in Plain City, Ohio, to offer a summer construction camp for 30 girls entering grades 7-9 in the upcoming fall semester. The Building My Future Camp, which took place from August 1-3, was free thanks to donations and the help of several local organizations.
Skilled tradeswomen and construction professionals, including Barton Malow Project Executive Adrienne Sraver, led the girls’ construction camp, providing guidance and training during hands-on activities like welding, carpentry, electric work, plumbing, and safety.
The campers put their newly acquired skills to use by constructing lamps, dog houses, welding horseshoes into butterfly designs, and learning about safety with tools. Additionally, the girls had the opportunity to engage in a discussion with a group of female professionals in the construction industry regarding potential career paths. On the last day of camp, Ohio CAT offered heavy equipment for the girls to practice with.
Barton Malow is thrilled to have collaborated with Tolles Career and Technical Center in providing 30 young girls an opportunity to see what it’s like to be future builders.
