On Wednesday, March 1, Barton Malow Company, local project partner Gray Construction, Ford Motor Company, and SK On celebrated reaching 1 million construction hours of work on BlueOval SK Battery Park in Glendale, Kentucky. BlueOval SK, a joint venture between Ford and SK On, will produce advanced batteries on site for future Ford and Lincoln electric vehicles.
Workers have already erected 28,464 tons of structural steel as of early March 2023, about two-and-a-half times as heavy as the Eiffel Tower. The one-million-hour milestone follows just two months after the official groundbreaking event when representatives from Barton Malow Company, Gray, Ford, SK On, and the State of Kentucky converged on site to celebrate the progress to date.
BlueOval SK has invested $5.8 billion to produce advanced batteries with production slated to begin in 2025, creating 5,000 new jobs in Kentucky. Significant construction progress at the 2.3-square-mile BlueOval SK Battery Park Kentucky campus brings Ford closer to its target of producing an annual run rate of 2 million electric vehicles globally by the end of 2026.
