Birmingham Public Schools Breaks Ground on High School Improvements

Birmingham Schools Ground Breaking - 2020 Bond

The improvements are part of Birmingham Public Schools’ 2020 Bond Program and will include work on both district high schools, Seaholm and Groves.

Barton Malow team members joined Birmingham Public Schools administrators, students, and community members to officially kick off the construction projects at both high school campuses – Seaholm and Groves – on Tuesday, November 2.

Birmingham Public Schools voters passed a $195-million bond program on March 10, 2020, with $70 million of that allocated toward high school improvements like auxiliary gyms; main office additions; updated dance and weight rooms, theater seating, restrooms, and athletic fields; and infrastructure improvements to HVAC equipment, security systems, and generators in both high schools.

“We’re excited to begin transforming our two district high schools by formally breaking ground on the Seaholm Auxiliary Gym and Groves Stadium Buildings,” BPS Superintendent Dr. Embekka Roberson said in a press release. “These bond improvements will allow us to provide an exceptional learning and athletic environment for our students and for the greater community.”

Barton Malow Builders is the construction manager on all high school work, which will take a phased approach over the next six years. Key partners on the project also include Plante Moran Cresa and Integrated Design Solutions.
