Barton Malow Announces Agreement to Divest from FlyPaper Technologies

SOUTHFIELD, MI – Barton Malow announced today the completion of a mutually agreed-upon separation between Barton Malow and FlyPaper Technologies. Barton Malow’s divestment will allow FlyPaper Technologies to establish itself as an independent company and continue in its mission to provide construction software solutions across the industry. As part of the agreement, Daily and PlanScan will move to be solely Barton Malow-owned and used products, while Sherlock and the rest of the FlyPaper platform will be independently available to its users. The move will also allow Barton Malow to continue to invest its resources in new innovations.

FlyPaper Founder and CEO Nick Fredricks started his career at Barton Malow in 2014, working as the lead BIM coordinator on the $500 million University of Notre Dame Campus Crossroads project. While on that project, he developed the product Sherlock to aid in his coordination and refined it to enhance productivity throughout the project.

After witnessing firsthand how Sherlock could aid the coordination team on the Notre Dame project, Nick approached Barton Malow to see if he could launch the tool externally to the wider construction industry. With the support of Barton Malow’s leadership and the enterprise’s broader innovation framework, FlyPaper Technologies was established and has since made significant strides with its products. With users from companies across the globe, FlyPaper’s products have saved thousands of hours in coordinator time. FlyPaper has continued to develop technology that is dedicated to improving productivity in the construction industry and, with this change in ownership, it will look to continue its growth independently.

Barton Malow has a long history of supporting innovation in the construction industry. Early in its 100-year history, it pioneered new construction delivery methods before continuing in its mission to push the industry forward with strategic investments, technology adoption, accelerator programs, and product development.

“Nick’s work developing FlyPaper into a company that can operate independently is the perfect example of the innovation we need in the construction industry,” said Barton Malow Senior Vice President of Business Transformation Lindsey Rem. “We’re proud to have played a role in his story and hope to see more stories like Nick’s come out of Barton Malow.”
