Barton Malow Receives 2017 In the Community Award from Associated General Contractors of America

AGC In the Community Award
Southfield, MI — March 24, 2017— Barton Malow Company has been recognized for their charitable contributions and commitment to community service to the community by receiving the 2017 In the Community Award during the Associated General Contractors of America (AGC) Annual Convention in Las Vegas, NV. Barton Malow was recognized as an award winner in 2016 making this the second consecutive year to be honored.

Barton Malow Company and its Foundation partnered with Life Remodeled, a Detroit-based nonprofit organization that invests cash, labor and materials into a different Detroit neighborhood each year. This year’s project was the Denby High School neighborhood, including building a new $1.4M community park adjacent to the school, repairing owner-occupied homes and cleaning up blight in city blocks surrounding the school. All of the physical work in the neighborhood was completed in one week. During the project week, nearly 100 Barton Malow volunteers joined 10,700 Life Remodeled volunteers to transform the Denby neighborhood.

“As a leader in the community, Barton Malow is committed to strengthening the city of Detroit and helping Life Remodeled broaden its charitable impact each year,” said Doug Maibach, Executive Vice President, Barton Malow. “It’s humbling to see that 80 percent of the materials and labor were donated by area businesses that understand how important restoring Detroit's neighborhoods is to sustaining the city's comeback.”

AGC in the Community is an initiative of AGC Charities Inc., designed to showcase the community service projects of AGC of America’s chapters and members. The awards recognize chapter and member service projects that epitomize the essence of charitable giving, through actual hands-on service and donations to charitable organizations.
